We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mary B. Marcy has been selected president of Dominican University of California. Her appointment is effective July 1, 2011, when she will succeed Joseph R. Fink and become the ninth person to lead Dominican in its 121-year history.
Dr. Marcy joins Dominican from Bard College, where she served as Provost of Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Vice President since 2004.
We conducted a comprehensive search to identify the best person to lead our university into the future. The Presidential Search Committee represented every campus constituency and involved the entire campus community in the search process through both meetings and surveys.
Dr. Marcy has a proven track record as a collaborative, visionary and successful academic leader and scholar. She personifies the qualities we sought in a leader who will advance the university’s academic and financial standing, inspire the university’s many constituencies and honor the Dominican values of study, reflection, community and service. We invite you to learn more about Dr. Marcy and her priorities for Dominican by reviewing her videotaped interviews and other information on this site.
As we celebrate Dr. Marcy’s appointment, we also honor Dr. Fink’s leadership over the past 23 years. During that time, Dominican has been transformed from a small college of 650 students to a robust university of more than 2,200 students. Our growth reflects our success in integrating vibrant academic programs in the arts and sciences and professional education.
As we focus on the future, we know that Dr. Marcy’s priority is to engage with all members of the university community in order to build Dominican’s legacy and further enhance its standing in the academic community.
